Marc's BLACKWORM KEEPER CLEANER™
|
|
REPLENISH VALUE OF WORMS TO FISHES!
KEEPS THEM CLEAN!

|
The California Blackworm (Lumbriculus variegatus) is a valuable food for both
freshwater and marine fish. Fish that are reluctant to start feeding in
captivity, from freshwater stingrays to marine butterfly fish can get their
start in captivity using blackworms. As these worms are a “natural”food they
approximate the nutrition in the diets in the wild.
To facilitate shipping by the worm farms to the purchaser, worms are treated to
purge their systems of excrement and any undesirable organisms. This helps them
arrive to you in viable condition. However, the process also decreases the
nutritive value to your fish.
MARC’S BLACKWORM KEEPER KLEANER™ helps replenish the value the worms have
lost by purging. This allows your fish to receive the full benefit of feeding
live food.
The enzymes in MARC’S BLACKWORM KEEPER KLEANER™ break down the waste
products of the worms in their container… keeping it cleaner, less odorous and
easier to rinse clean…meaning the worms remain suitable for feeding to your
fish. |
INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A MANUFACTURED LIVE WORM KEEPER:
Obtain a container with cover that will have a footprint larger than the worm
colony spread out. Do not put air holes in the cover.
Rinse worms in a fine meshed fishnet until the water is clear. The white
fishnets are good; brine shrimp nets are too fine. You can use a coarse net but
will lose some worms rinsing.
Let the remaining water drip out of the net for a few minutes until the worms
are barely moist.
Put the worms in the container. Add enough water back so when the worms spread
out there is a ring of water around the edge of the colony about one eighth of
an inch at most. You should add just enough water to be able to stir the worms
with a fork.
Sprinkle MARC’S BLACKWORM KEEPER KLEANER™ over worms as if you were
salting a hamburger. Mix into worms. A plastic fork works well.
Let container of worms sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Powder will have absorbed some water; worms should be “pasty” with minimal, if
any water seeping out around the mass. Drain off any excess water in a net if
necessary.
Put on cover tightly; most (frost free) refrigerators will otherwise dehydrate
worms.
Stir again and refrigerate at normal refrigerator temperatures; about 38ºF/
3.3ºC. Ideally, repeat process daily. You will find that the worms will stay
cleaner than usual even if you don’t. At the least, allow some fresh air to
enter each day. The colony will develop a small “soft spot” where the worm waste
accumulates –it will be a lighter color than the worms and the worms move away
from it. Some worms will crawl up the sides of the container – this is normal.
Take worms from the edges of the colony and those that crawl up the sides of the
container first for feeding as they are the cleanest. Excess wastes can be
eliminated by rinsing. Waste can also be removed from the container with a fork
as well.
The above information is useful for Tubifex worms as well. Daily rinsing is
highly recommended as Tubifex are messier than blackworms.
