Marc Weiss, an aquatic biologist and professional aquarist, is president of Reef Bugs Inc. and markets his products as Marc Weiss Aquarium Products , Ft. Lauderdale Florida USA. Marc develops, manufactures and consults in the marketing of nutritional supplements,
medications, and innovative products for freshwater and marine aquariums, aquaculture and ornamental plant culture. He is US Advisor to Ornamental Fish International, the international trade association for aquarium fish dealers. Marc also does consulting,
sales promotion and advertising for other firms in the aquatics/pet business.

Marc was born in New York City, where there were always fish tanks in the house ... lizards, turtles, amphibians and other critters occupied those glass boxes as well. When Marc was nine, his family moved near the sea and marine life was soon added to his collection of freshwater fishes, turtles, critters and plants. Admittedly he didn’t do too well with marine life in those days, but he was hooked.

An avid diver and explorer; he often travels far from his present Ft. Lauderdale, Florida USA home. His first journey to the Amazon basin in 1974 opened his eyes to the biochemical interelationships of the rainforest and reef environments and formed the basis of his future work.

Marc spent much time from the late ‘80’s until the millenium year finding unique and exceptional discus in the Amazon primarily serving the Asian market. In the course of studying, catching and breeding discus, Marc introduced several unique discus specific products as well as new forms of discus to the hobby. His marine endeavors address organisms of both ornamental and pharmaceutical value and the techniques to culture and market them. He has developed unique products and protocols to cultivate marine life that has not survived in captivity before. He has lectured on discus and marine aquaria in both the USA and abroad. He has been published in several languages, in both hobbyist and technical journals. Marc was one of the founders of the Discus Study Group in the USA and edited its publication, “DISCUSsions” for several years. During this time he also authored the monthly column “Salt Solutions” for Tropical Fish Hobbyist Magazine.
